What is the Book of Trials?

Intro to the Blog

Well for one, it's the meandering collection of houserules, homebrew, and stolen ideas that I've cobbled together, duct taped to the engine of DnD 5e, and floored the gas on for my various one-shots and campaigns that I've been running for the past 6 years now.

As for what it is in the context of this blog; I've been reading a lot of stuff from some OSR blogs lately (big shout out to Andrew K of Goblin Punch and Circas K of Sword of Mass Destruction) and like any moderately competent DM, I decided to steal their ideas and run. This is the natural result, and will now serve as the repository for random setting lore for my Elegy of a Dream campaign as well as occasional ramblings on game mechanics, my own precious, if poorly-thought out, homebrew ideas that I cobbled together at ungodly hours of the morning, and blatant rip-offs -- we'll call it inspired creations -- of people who are much better at this whole game design and world building thing than I am.

 Intro to Me

I'm a recent college graduate who spent entirely too much time staring through a microscope at cells and mixing clear liquids together just to watch nothing obvious happen. Naturally, I enjoyed this so much that I've decided to go ahead and get a Ph. D. doing more of the same.

As for my background with TTRPGs, I started out in my senior year of high-school with an absolute nightmare of a homebrew campaign, ran daily during lunch period after getting hooked on some funny Dungeons and Dragons Youtube videos from the likes of Puffin Forest, JoCat, and XP to Level 3 and deciding that it would be a great idea to become an even bigger nerd than I already was. Now 6 years, three campaigns, and a crippling dice addiction later, here I am.

Yeah that's really about it. Expect random spurts of massive numbers of blog posts where I wax poetic far longer than I really ought to and then weeks or months long periods where there's complete radio silence.
